03 — HOW TO USE IT
Mask intelligibility, not every sound.
Speech is distracting because the brain keeps trying to decode it. A steady, broadband layer reduces that intelligibility: pink noise covers the useful speech range without the brighter hiss of white noise, while the fan fills small gaps and the river keeps the texture from feeling mechanically flat.
Begin lower than you think. Increase the mix only until complete sentences stop arriving clearly, then leave it there. If you need to raise your own voice or the mix becomes the main thing you notice, it is too loud. This is a focus aid, not hearing protection or a treatment.
